Hello Fellow Clayarters,
I will be in the Santa Fe and Alberquerque(?) area of Santa Fe from March
15 to March 20 of this year. Does anyone know of any workshops,
potter's/sculptor's studios, or galleries to visit. Also, isn't there a
forge around Santa Fe? Any info would be greatly appreciated!!
Thanks!

to Lisa going to Santa Fe: Lots of clay stuff goes on in Santa Fe, from what
I hear. We lived there 10 years ago, so are out of touch with who's doing
what in clay, though there is always plenty of Native American work to see.
The forge you may be thinking of is Shidoni Foundry in Tesuque, just north of
Santa Fe. Well worth a visit to see them in action and to visit the outdoor
and indoor gallery. Lots of sculpture. We used to walk from our house in
Tesuque up Bishop's Lodge Road to just wander among the sculptures. Lots of
good eating in Santa Fe, too, starting with frito pies from the Woolworth's
on the Plaza. And if Thursday is still chalupa day at Tia Sophia's just off
the Plaza, you should definitely go. A great town, if a bit on the popular
side for its own good. Drive the High Road to Taos, set up a visit to see
Georgia O'Keeffe's place in Abiquiu. Have a great time.

Hi Lisa,
The most comprehensive, 'in one place' guide to art in that area is the
Wingspread Collector's Guide, P.O. Box13566, Albuquerque, NM 87192,
505/292-7537, 800.873-4278, e-mail artinfo@wingspread.com. They have editions
for Santa Fe, Albuquerque and Taos.
You can find the paper form nearly everywhere in the area and they have an
invaluable web site at http://www.collectorsguide.com. The site includes
galleries, artists, event, entertainment, dining and lodging and can be sorted
to locate just what interests you.
When in Santa Fe contact Santa Fe Clay Co., they are becoming "the contact for
things, events and persons clay" in northern NM. They have a workshop schedule
and a brochure.
In Albuquerque the Harwood Center is a great source of local arts information,
galleries and studios.
The foundry is just north of Santa Fe, called Shidoni, very interesting
sculpture garden, worth the visit. You'll need a map. It's all in the
collector's guide.
If you are interested in indian pottery you're heading for mecca. The local
museums have wonderful collections and the pubelos have an abundance of
contemporary work.
Hope you enjoy your visit.
Darrol in Elephant Butte, 200 miles south of Santa Fe.

The Sante Fe Gallery off Canyon Road has works
by people like DeVore, Duckworth etc. Its abit
hard to find, so you might want to call in advance.
Runnymeade on Canyon road has works by "newer" arsits,
although I did see a collection of Beatrice Wooods'
works once.
The museum (forgot the name) next to the folkarte
museum on the south east side of town has a great
collection of Indian pots. Email me if you want more
info on Indian ceramics.

Hi Lisa,
Try Paseo Pottery in Santa Fe for working pottery coop of pleasant people
and a variety of ware. Its down the street from Santa Fe Pottery.
Shidoni Foundry in Tesuque does their sculptural casting where you can watch
them. Its enough to make you want to do it too.
If you make it north, Kilborn pottery is in Pilar, put=in for some great
rafting. Might be a little chilly in March tho.
Have fun!
