Hi all;
There really is a God. I have been blessed with a sore back so that I can
figure out what in the world to do with all the messages from this site.
Every time I check the mail another 30 to 50 come rolling in and I am so
pleased with the quality of responses that I just can't make myself use the
darn delete button. At the moment the only time the delete button gets hit
is for messages looking for information at specific locations for
sight-seeing. Since I am not a traveller, these few can go. The rest I
consider to be of great value. My gosh we have access to the experience of
some really great potters out there. I immediately responded emotionally to
the messages from Richard Aerni because I took one of his ash glazes from
Ceramics Monthly and adapted it using Volcanic Ash in place of regular ash
and it has become one of my favorite glazes. I love his work, and use all
his glazes published in Ceramics Monthly. Then there is Tony Hansen who has
tolerated my stupid questions and has patiently coached me with my glazing
and firing education for the past whatever years.
Trying to figure out how to get off the computer and back on the wheel
became a problem. I am just not smart enough to remember all the info
packed onto this site. So I started out by saving everything to a folder.
Well, it started taking me a long time trying to remember what the last
number I had added to the multiple responses to a question. It was really
getting cumbersome and no time to read or pot. I finally loaded good old
wordperfect and setup many windows by topics. Yes. I like this alot. Read,
save it to folder, select all, copy, paste, and voila. Now I finally have
the choice of reading by topic. Thanks to huge harddrives and backup
hardware, I have you all permanently. Now if I can just discipline myself
to do this on a daily basis so I don't have another couple of weeks to wade
through I should be okay.
I am sure each of you have dealt with this in many different ways, but
thought I would write about it, as I seriously thought about whether I
should stop using this wonderful information base as it was becoming a
problem.
If I manage to get off this computer and back on the wheel soon, I will be
surely be looking for advice soon. Nice to know there are so many nice
folks out there ready to help.
First question: We have a new industry moving to town and I am requesting
permission to use their logo's and pictures of their products on my pottery
as sovenier items. I am firing cone 5 to 10, variety of glazes, as well as
Raku and sawdust or primitive, and I need advice on where to get decals
custom made for pottery and how to use them. I think I can apply them to
any finished piece but may be wrong as I have never done this before. I
live in Alberta Canada so would really appreciate information on decal
companies close to our area if possible. Thanks to all who respond in
advance.
