Hi Sylvia -

There are companies that make decals to your specs, which advertise in
Ceramics Monthly.

I investigated them and they looked interesting but pricey for my purposes.
So I got together with the owners of the two local marinas here, and we
worked out good line drawings of the logo and name they wanted on their
"souvenir" mugs, and I had them made into rubber stamps. They work just
fine, imprinting the side of the mug about 2 or 3 hours after throwing
(sometimes I sprinkle the side of the cylinder with cheap baby powder, to
keep the stamp from sticking.) In most cases, I am not glazing over the
imprint and the baby powder produces a pleasant "finish" after firing.
However, you can also glaze over the imprint, and if you have a decent
pooling glaze that works fine too. And the mugs sell well, and the only
cost is the first - about $35 for having the stamp made.
