Nils, don't you ever comment, "That was a beautiful firing!" or "What a
beautiful surface" or "melt" or color, or shape? If not, what are the
comments you make to yourself as you unload the kiln?

That's a good question, Sue, and as I think on it I might inadvertently
say "beautiful", but I think I am more likely to respond with " look at
that ash, or wow, see those flame wraps--and maybe most often --hmm,
interesting or as my wife points out my Eastern slur--innersting". The
point is while anything might be considered beautiful I don't seek it as
a functional aspect in my work. I am much more interested in the unique
interaction of shape, form color etc that combines whimsy, timelessness
and haptic character. Beauty happens, but usually inadvertently. Curious!
