Are there any potters in the north texas area (Dallas) that are doing
wood firings?
If so, I would like to make contact with you as I teach in a high school
and would like for my students to see how a wood firing is done or to be
able participate wwhen a firing is being done.
Thanks

Phil :
Yes. The following is a partial list of North Texas potters and
Colleges/Universities who woodfire.
Gary and Daphne Hatcher, Mineola, Texas.
David Hendley, Maydelle, Texas.
Randy Brodnax, Hutchins, Texas.
Larry Fleck, Argyle, Texas.
David Day, Old City Park, Dallas, Texas.
Heritage Farm (Pat Chesney), Elm Mott, Texas.
University of North Texas (Elmer Taylor, Jerry Austin), Denton, Texas.
University of Dallas (Dan Hammett), Irving, Texas.
Stephen F. Austin University (Pieri Fenci), Nacogdoches, Texas.
Brookhaven College (Sam Clarkson), Carrollton, Texas.
These are the woodfirers I'm personally aware of. It's probably not a
complete list. I'm sure there are others.
If you're ever down in the Austin area check out Buck Pottery in Greune,
Texas. Dee and Terry Buck operate an impressive studio. Beautiful
work. They have a double Bourry box wood kiln. An interesting thing
about their kiln is they use Thorley kiln shelves and fire to ^11-^13. I
didn't think those shelves could handle the temperature or the effects of
the ash buildup but they do.

You can contact the Ceramic Store in Houston at 713-864-6442. They are the
largest supply store in the area and keep up a list of local artists and
studios. Also check out the Potters Guild in the Rice Village, dont have
their number, but they run a co-op gallery between 10-15 diverse potters.
They would know the whos who of Houston.
