Hi all,
I do not use many novelty/special effect glazes, but a lichen glaze that
I once tried worked too well. It came from Cooper if I remember
correctly. The recipe is this:
Soda spar 30 (I used NC-4 I think, but Kona f-4 is very close too)
Mag Carb 31 (not Manganese but magnesium!)
3134 frit 6
talc 8
zinc ox 6
epk 19
rutile 5
105
this is a nice lichen fired to ^6 in OX to create 1/8 inch slabs of
Lichen with 1/32 - 1/16 inch cracks between, just like in the pretty
pictures!
Good luck. That is the only lichen I have tested. Also check out the
bronze tan matt in the clayart glaze database. I tested this one, and
it worked beautifully especially after sitting around for a couple
months where it became a totally different glaze from the original
test. This one is a nice matt green with marbleized patterns of white
thruout and truly does looke like one type of patinaed bronze. After a
month or so it became a black dry (!) matt with green highlights and a
bit of bronzing and tan around the edges or where thick. The matt black
is very smoky looking. If you don't find this in the database I will
dig it up in my notes for you.
Have fun!!
