pacifica tour

I had the good fortune to spend some time in the Pacifica assembly area,
within the Laguna Clay Company factory just two weeks ago. I was there to
pick up a wheel for a customer, had some time to kill, and wanted to
really see how the wheels were put together. While I was looking at the GT
wheels I met the assembly line supervisor. He is a very nice
gent by the name of Ray Watson.

Ray gave me a thorough tour of the assembly of the GT wheels and of the
assembly area. He is a machinest by trade and told me of a number of
improvements to both the production area and the potters wheel that were
about to be implemented. Last week, I'm sure, was a filled with
lots of movement of both man and their machinery.

The results will be a potter's wheel that is built and will perform even
better than it did before. Not that it needs to as I have heard
nothing but praise for this wheel. I also use the GT 800
myself and just love it. Yes, the polyurethane belts (four of them) do
squeak a little between the application of silicon spray. I can easily
live with that. The two piece splash guard is a breeze to clean. The new
"magic" (foot) pedal reminds me of my youth riding Greyhound busses to my
first jobs in San Francisco. It's big, metallic and smooth to operate.

All in all I enjoyed my tour and my visit with Mr. Watson at the Pacifica
production facility. I was really impressed with his willingness to fine
tune an already great design to make it just a little bit better. I have
found that the pacifica people are very helpful on warranty issues and
upgrades as well. They recently did a pedal upgrade for local potter, Joe
Winter, and only charged a very modest fee.

To sum up, this wheel is solidly built! I sell a lot of them. And I have
the utmost confidence in both the quality of the Pacifica potter's wheel
and in the company that backs them.
