I've been watching the cooling thread with some grins. I wonder if any of
you out there just shut off your kiln and don't go out after it's dark with
a flashlight and peek in at the stuff. I've done that for 30 years and will
probably do it till I can't pot any more. I've melted my share of
flashlight lenses doing this. For me it's just part of the process. I'm
currently doing mostly copper reds and always want to "see the color".
So how about it? Do any of you "not peek"?

I haven't peeked since I caused major thermal shock (large cracks)
by doing so. ( I use electric Paragon kiln, and fire from cone 04 - 6)

Ha! During our power outage last week, I was in deep do-do with my kids,
when they realized that I had melted every flashlight in the house (again).
Peeking in the kiln is like peeking at Christmas presents under the
tree....just lift back the tape and......darn, slippers from Aunt Bertha again.
When I had my big old salt kiln, in the winter I loved to unload it
real fast with gloves, then get a cup of coffee, and sit in the warm kiln
and gaze out at all my new treasures lined up outside of the kiln. Nothing
like the feeling of warm bricks radiating! Sigh
