Hi, All,
A friend of mine from here who is not online is going to Philadelphia over
Christmas, and asked me to enquire for her if there are any potters, studios,
or galleries that she could visit. I will give her Jimmy Clarks's name and
the Clay Studio, but there must be others. She does raku and architectural
ceramics.
Thanks,
Paul Lewing

I agree, The Clay Studio is a good place to start. It's neighborhood is fun
to wander as well, art galleries, furniture makers, etc. Specifically,
Snyderman gallery has crafts as well as furniture. There's a Wharton Esherick
show at Moderne on 3rd Street, also Nakashima work. Helen Drutt in the 1700
block of Walnut street is fabulous. Currently a porcelain show of Wayne
Higby, not sure for how long. Other clay places: in Manayunk there's
Artforms, Latitudes, Art a la Carte, American Pie, Tumbleweeds (Native
American crafts) and more. These are stores on one street that's fun to
wander.

There's the Main Line Arts Center in Bryn Mawr or Haverford, the Wayne Art
Center, both in the suburban main line. In New Jersey there's the
Merchantville Art Coop. There are lots of potters renting studios at 915
Spring Garden street. Open studios weekend has passed but you could probably
run into some open studios. Finally, check the weekend section in the
Inquirer on Friday. The art museum has a few pieces, very few, but it has
lots else to recommend it.

Hope that will keep your friend from "there" busy.
