This past weekend I attended a workshop taught by Sandi Pierantozzi and
Neil Patterson sponsored by the Ohio Canal Clay Guild at Yost Tile
Company. What a wonderful time I had, and I came away with a whole bag
of new tricks. The "tag-team" teaching style of Sandi and Neil allowed
the participants to observe both throwing and handbuilding techniques.
We accomplished a tremendous amount in just a day. In handbuilding we
worked with soft slabs, and as the day progressed it was facinating to
see how the finished pieces looked like anything BUT slabs. The wheel
work was just as exciting as we watched Neil take twisted wire to his
thickly thrown cylinders and transform them into wonderful faceted
forms, we only hoped that we could feel as comfortable cutting up our
work.
The facilities at Yost Tile were ideal for presenting such a workshop,
and the people of
the Ohio Canal Clay Guild proved themselves to be just as adept in the
kitchen as in the pottery.(I thought the holiday eating frenzy was over)
I would not hesitate to make the long drive to attend their future
workshops. Thanks to you all and to Clayart for getting the word out on
"what's happening". Pam
