There was a question about use of pipe dope for propane lines. Yes,
there is a specific type for use with propane. Some dopes I am told do
not hold up when used with propane. I got mine at the Ace hardware. It
tells you on the jar what it is compatible with.
Guess while we're at it, I have heard it is not wise to use galvanized
pipe with gas - black iron or copper being preferred.

My understanding of why not to use galvanized pipe is that in the
galvanizing process zinc
can fill in holes in the
metal effectively plugging
the leak. Problem is, is
that when the pipe does
oxidize the zinc corrodes
first and can leave a pipe
that looks intact but has
a hole in it.
