Dear All,
It is the time again for our local potters group to have our annual
pitfire. I would like some info on anything we can use as colorants (we
use yellow ochre and some stuff that looked like miracle grow). Are there
any temperature limitations to the colorants? I think we fire too hot.
Any help you can offer will be appreciated. i have checked out the website
on pitfiring but there is nothing specific there. If you can recommend any
books that would help, too.
Thanks alot,

try copper carbonate in a wash on parts of your piece you might want
highlighted...works well over white slip or white clay body...lballard

Anne,
People will disagree, but I think that large group pitfires tend to burn
too hot. Try 2 or 3 smaller and seperate fires going at the same time.
