Hi Candace,
As a relative "newby" I'm glad to have an idea to contribute. I've been pit
firing with friends in an area where we cannot dig a pit. Our solution was to
use the tub out of old washing machines. They are always available from used
appliance stores (cheap!) and already have little vent holes. We have about 5
in different sizes and have used all of them very successfully. Best of all
they're portable. Good luck with your pit firing.
