Hi! I am very, very interested in painting tiles. I have been inspired by
the hand-painted tiles of the Andalucia region of Spain (Sevilla, Costa del
Sol, etc.), and would like to try to reproduce and interpret the tiles I
have seen there. I am a _complete_ beginner and have little to no experience
in arts and crafts.
I have found many web pages and usenet groups related to ceramics and
pottery, but unfortunately, the discussions are much too technical and
advanced for me. I need the basics of hand-painting tiles, such as:
1) What types of tiles should I use? Can I just go to Home Depot and use
those to start experimenting?
2) What types of paints or glazes should I use?
3) Do I have to fire them in a kiln when I'm done or are there certain
glazes that won't need firing?
I would greatly appreciate any assistance or advice at all. If anyone knows
of any dealers, stores, etc. in the Boston area, please let me know.
I want to stress that I am not yet ready to make my own tiles or glaze, I
just want to purchase them for now.
Thank you!!
