I have always fired cone 10 reductions and I'm now attempting to fire to
cone 5. My first fire is today, so any suggestions would be greatly
appreciated. I have a West Coast Kiln -- gas -- kind of old. The
following is one woman's suggestion:
leave the damper open
start by moving the gas up 3 inches
every half hour move the gas up three inches until full
about 8 hours later, the temp should be around 2125 degrees
shut the kiln down and close the damper
(she doesn't use cones)
Personally, I must use cones, so I have stuck in a 4, 5, and 6.
