Claudia,
>> I read a June 1987 article about Mike Imes, a potter in Kentucky, who
pinches pots of all sizes. They are wonderful! Does anyone else out
there pinch? I would love to know more about how it is done. <<
All sizes, how big?
When I make my big pots I use a combination of "clabbing" (flat coils) then
pinching, scraping and "slow-throwing" (easier to demo than to describe).
There are some famous pot pinchers in england (book is down stairs).
After reading Paulus Berendsen#s (sp) book (out of print), "finding your way
with clay" I spent a whole semester pinching pots (not too big). I love to
pinch pots but haven't done it in about a year. You'll use muscles in your
hands you never knew you had. The backs of your hands will hurt until some
strengh is built up.
Enjoy (the pinching not the pain ;-)
