potters clubs and guilds in canada and the us

Hi all -
The Richmnd Potters' Club just had a workshop with British potter John
Calver. It was GREAT - I will be posting a report in due course - I'm
waiting for a few bits of reference information before sending it out.
However, John made a point that I hadn't realized: it is not easy to get
the names and addresses of potters' clubs and guilds in North America. If
there is a central registry in either country, it is not widely known. It
would be an enormous help to overseas potters who are coming here to give
workshops (usually by invitation), if they could make sure of a few more
workshops in the same country (if not province or state) to spread out the
cost of travel. This would be an advantage to the clubs as well, as they
would have a lesser share of the travel expenses to cover. If they had
access to a list of addresses, they could let other clubs know they are
coming, and when, and what their specialty is, and could then maybe add
those few critical extra working days to make the whole enterprise
financially worth it. So:

1. Does anyone know of a central registry of potter's clubs and guilds with
relevant info, that I could get hold of?

2. Assuming that there isn't such a registry, could I ask everyone who
belongs to or knows about such an organization, to e-mail me the address
(privately - spare the list - I can hear the groans even now)? I'm probably
completely off my nut, but it shouldn't take TOO much to transfer that info
to a single file and print it out... And if it adds to the variety of
workshops available, and makes them cheaper, and enables all that
little-known expertise to be shared, sounds ok?

Please don't trash this before sending that address - it won't take all that
long, will it?
Thanks.

Veronica

In Los Angeles we haveACS-DC(American Ceramics Society-Design Division) and
we have monthly meetings and have workshops in schools and universities in
this area. We are going to go to a pit firing do soon. This weekend we are
having a two day raku workshop. There is always something going on. Please
contact me at ctaylor174@aol.com. I'm originally from Manchester( 37 years
ago).Think its a great idea to have a central place to have these clubs
listed. I also belong to the Ventura Potters Guild, which is located about 1
hour away from L.A.
Hope this is a start to your list.

Veronica,
There is indeed just what you are looking for, and I couldn't have stated the
reasons for the need any better. You need to have your group join the Studio
Potter Network, and register it on our Workshop Host Site File. Send me a
SASE and I'll get all the info to you.

Thanks Chris -
Would you have some mailing addresses for the ACS-DC and the Ventura PG? I
hope to have this list filed with the Craft Potters Association in Britain,
and e-mail seems to be less common over there.
