Dear clayart friends,

I am working on my final year at Oregon College of Arts & Crafts, with a
major in ceramics. I plan to do my thesis show on the safety and health
hazards that we, as potters are exposed to. My show will include 5 abstract
pieces that depict:

1) Carpal tunnel syndrome
2) Silicosis from exposure to free silica dust
3) Neurological disorders, anemia, and other problems due to lead exposure
4) Cataracts caused by looking into the kiln
5) Back injuries from heavy lifting and awkward body mechanics

In order to make my work more personal and realistic, I would like to hear
from potters who have experienced any of the above problems. Please answer
any of the following questions:

1) Describe the onset of the problem.
2) How do/did you feel?
3) How was it treated? Successful?
4) How has it affected your work?
5) How has it affected your life?
6) If you knew then what you know now, what precautions would you take?

Please add any information that you think is pertinent to this project, and
send your response to Mondopots@aol.com.

Thank you in advance,
Anna Carpentieri
