Hi. My husband, David, used to make his living as a potter back in the 70s
(before I knew him) and after 18 years in the corporate world, he's
considering getting back into it. We are taking a trip to the Roanoke &
Lynchburg, VA areas this weekend and I'm wondering if anyone on this list can
recommend any potters/studios to visit.

Also, does anyone out there remember him from his potting days? He studied
at the University of MD and worked in Ohio (Athens, I think) and Maryland
before giving it up in the 80s.

Thanks in advance. Cathie Feild

Cathie---At my community studio in Langley Park, MD I work with a few
potters who were at the U of MD around that time. Does your husband
know Mary Giammatteo or Don Davidson? How about Steve
Abramson--he's a photographer, but he was around the art department
at that time.

Let me know.

Sandra--Don't know (or remember) anyone you mentioned. My first professor
was Hal McWhinnie, followed by Adele Zimmerman and ending with Gary Irby.
The best wheel potter of the time was Bill Krystal. We had an awful lot of
really good folks in the program at the time, but my name memory needs a
little jogging. We were housed in the College of Human Ecology and probably
almost set the entire building on fire too many times for The Administration
to cope with. DF
