i have used the walker pug mill for nearly 30 years... i have one in my
studio, at the farm and had one in the class room . just this morning i
was throwing 15 pound plates with re-cycled clay direct from the pug mill.
i always run the old stuff through the pug several times then right onto the
wedging board with a two minute shape wedge and throw. i am one of those
habit potters that cannot use clay right from the bag. i dump all clay into
my pug, scrap, dry powder, and bagged clay. i love to add grog and sand,
and i grind up taconite tailings added to ochre and throw that in... i
cannot ever get enough tooth so i create it in the pug mill.

because of working in a japanese studio i always do a throwing
wedge..pulling the clay up and down several times to break air pockets, so
perhaps i really wedge more than the average potter... i love the feel of
the clay from the pug mill and have not really aquired the feel of de-aired
clay....i suppose this is counter productive and i realize i should be more
adult and use the bagged clay, but what the hell- i cannot stand the way if
feels....so sue me.

the pug mill is the potters best helper...almost any brand, any size, but i
would not trade my walker for any piece of pottery equipment.
