For Sale:
I have a non deairing pug mill that was patterned after the Bluebird.
This mill has pugged a lot of clay in it's day -but... I have recently
had it completely taken apart, sandblasted and applied a heavy duty
super hard epoxy paint to the inside surfaces (except the auger). The
outside was also painted and the mill looks pretty good. This has an 8
3/4" barrel and reduces down to about 4".
It is located Salem, in the Willamette Valley in Oregon. I'm asking
$750.00 - I think it is a pretty good price for the condition.
Please contact me off list at dgmat@comcast.net

HI fellow clayarters,

If anyone has been considering buying a Peter Pugger, the VPM-30 is a
de-airing mixer/pugmill. It's not as small as their VPM-20 model, but still
a nice size that won't take up an enormous amount of floor space.

I love mine which I've owned for about 6 years. I bought it because a number
of my family members have had problems with carpal tunnel syndrome, and I
always hated wedging clay.

The Peter Pugger eliminated my need to wedge clay, but it also changed my
whole approach to clay.

I used to continue to work almost every large piece I started, particularly
large pieces. The more I tried to "save" those pieces, the worse they got. I
knew I should just start over, but I didn't want to have to recycle all that
clay, and I wasn't going to throw away the clay.

After putting the Peter Pugger in my studio, the minute I saw that I was
going in the wrong direction with a piece, I just put the clay in the Peter
Pugger hopper, until I'm ready to fill the hopper, mix, de-air, and pug the
clay. It is a lot easier to let go of ceramics under construction (or even
greenware) when it's so easy to recycle and start over.

When I was throwing, I'd have times when I wondered if I'd forgotten how to
throw. It took me a long time to figure out that my main problem was that
the consistency of my clay was completely wrong-- either too hard or too
soft. But if I didn't have a better consistency clay on hand, I'd just fight
with the clay. When I was able to exchange the "bad" clay for dryer or
wetter clay, I "remembered" how to throw. This is so basic, and perhaps
if I'd been working with others I might have figured it out sooner, but I
was a slow learner. In fact, I didn't really learn this until I had the
Peter Pugger.

Now with the Peter Pugger, when the clay seems to be uncooperative, I know
to consider whether changing the moisture content would make life easier. If
so, I can just get rid of the wrong clay by recycling it easily. It doesn't
matter if I have a few pounds or several hundred pounds of clay that are
wrong for me, for my intended purpose, it's not a problem!

I am also a lot more willing to try almost anything in clay, to see how it
feels to me. I don't have to worry about how to deal with a lot of clay that
needs to be recycled, whether wet or completely dry.

BTW Peter Puggers are normally FOB California, so east coasters may find
this to be a very attractive opportunity.

Disclaimer: I don't know Beth Hamilton and don't know anything about her. I
have no financial ties to the Peter Pugger Company.

Did I say that I just LOVE my Peter Pugger?

I have an Opperman pugmill w/ 2" barrel for sale.
Non de-airing. The motor is perfect; we have repaired the
barrel (it had some large pockmarks which we had
professionally welded). Screw is brass. It requires a
220 outlet or could be hardwired if you wish (currently
has a dryer plug on it).

I'm asking $600 CDN. I WILL NOT CONSIDER
SHIPPING. I am ~30 kms west of London
Ontario.

Reason for sale - I have fibromyalgia, which is steadily
encroaching on my life-style. Clay is cheap and
I don't create much scrap. I'd prefer to spend my pain
free time creating, not recycling. I've put several tons
through this machine over the years and never had
a problem.
