OK! I am going to get a pug mill! Maybe two. I need one for my studio at home
and one for the studio at the school. I've talked to my director and he is
agreeable that we need a pugmil. Of course it isn't in this years' budget.
But the time is now for me to put in my request an to specify models We don't
need a big one. Just good and reliable and safe. I'm looking at the Bluebird
Model 400 and the Venco Mark II 3". These being in the $2000 range. Also the
Blue bird 800 and Venco Mark II 3 1/2" Model. These being in the $3000 range.
I could use some testimonials (good or bad) on these machines as well as other
recomendations.
Is the Davis book with the plans for a pugmill still in print? I didn't see it
in the Potters Place catalogue.

I've been using the bottom of the line Blue Bird Deairing pug mill (not
willing to dig thru my filing system to find the exact model) for 10 or 11
years. Paid $1,200.00 new, and it hasn't given me any problems at all. I
pug bagged clay, scraps, reclaimed clay, use it as an extruder and love it a
lot. I have used it extensively 12 months a year and it has been a jewel.
I do this full time and my wrists are a lot happier.

I have a Venco I've used with NO maintenace or problems for 10 years. It's a
great machine. It's deairing, and for the record, if I forget to hook up the
deairing hose, the clay is terrible. Very loose and fluffy. I hope non
deairing machines people are talking about don't produce clay like that!
