Hello Leslie,
Not sure what your problem is as I have been using these same bats for
almost 10 years now and find they work very well. Here are some thoughts on
what may cause problems. Use potters plaster. Anything harder or more
dense, such as Ultracal, may not have sufficient absorbancy or drying
qualities. Let your bats dry thoroughly before using them. Wait until they
are no longer cold to the touch. When you've finished throwing a pot on
them, run a trim tool around the bottom so you have a clean edge against the
bat. Drying procedures vary from one place to another and, in our area, from
season to season. But here's what I do. After throwing I wait for a couple
of hours then cover them with plastic, leave them on the bats for a day, or
overnight, and they just lift off ready for trimming. As for storing the
bats, I do nothing special at all. Don't even store them vertically. I
stack them on a cheap dolly cart and although they seldom get a chance to
dry completely, they still work well. Hope this helps.
