Hello,
One of the people who works at the arts center where
I take classes would like recipes for purple glazes. She
used to have a deep purple/royal blue cone 10 glaze, but
she ran out of it, doesn't have a recipe, and doesn't
remember the name. If anyone could post glaze recipes or
email them to me privately, I'd appreciate it. I'm also
looking for a good purple raku glaze, if one exists.

Thanks,

John

>o please send replies to me too, i fire at cone 10 and have searched
before for purple and reds that would work for me & mine but sigh,
production always comes before experimentation. sshoot. Now, as we
gear up for the tourist season, there will be little time for
mixing and checking, but i promise to post results of any glazes i
try. And thank all of you for the inspiration, help and stimulus
It can be difficult up here so far away from you all.

Boy haven't we all who firer cone 10 been looking for those brilliant colors.
Well in Clay Times magazine last issue, there is an article about DeGussa
Inclusion Pigments. The colors ar red orange and yellow fired in reduction
or oxidation atmospheres. They said,"They mean red, not brick; orange, not
rust; and yellow, not harvest gold." The photo showed brilliant colors and
when mixed with cobalt blue the colors are infinite. So yeh for the color
gods! You can order them from Laguna with toll free # (800) 452-4862. Have
fun. My samples just arrived yesterday!

I have just experimented with my new "samples" of Degussa pigments and found
them not as attractive as the advertising hype would lead you to believe.
[However, my experiments were in reduction -- not yet in oxidation and the
difference might be extensive]. I also used the recipes of Karen Gringhuis
in her article in Clay Times, Volume 2, No.2 for March/April, 1996. My
results did not look quite like the illustrations, unfortunately. Perhaps I
did something wrong? At any rate, combining cobalt with any of the Degussa
stains just may or may not give you an attractive purple.
