I have had too many requests for the purple glazes to respond
individually. These are them: they work on our stoneware, in our
kiln. Please, TEST, test, before you make a zillion gallons. This
first one is - ah - certainly purple.
ATOMIC PURPLE (don't ask me; I inherited it.) ^9-10 Reduction
390g soda spar
85g gerstley borate
85g dolomite
130g talc
40g ball clay
270g silica
add:
3% cobalt oxide
5% manganese
This is a satin-matt glaze, very stable (test!). For a paler
purple, use cobalt carbonate instead of cobalt oxide.
COLEMAN PURPLE (inherited this too, don't know how much it might
have changed since/if Coleman actually created it).
^ 9-10 Reduction.
375g custer feldspar
312g silica
100g whiting
62g dolomite
62g gerstley borate
62g barium carbonate
27g zinc oxide
ADD:
12g ultrox
25g copper carbonate
3g cobalt carbonate
This glaze has a tendency to run, don't glaze too close to bottom.
Translucent blue-purple; poor reduction = so-so blue. Nice for
brushwork over celedon(s).
