Does anybody know what Pyrax HS is? We have some in the studio and
nobody knows what it is for sure. Our best guess is pyrophyllite. Thanks

Pyrax HS is indeed pyrophyllite. It is sold by R.T. Vanderbilt of
Norwalk CT. 203/853-1400 If you call them they should tell you
who sells it in your area.

Hi Rick,
Yes, pyrophyllite - a hydrous aluminum silicate from R.T. Vanderbilt.
Aids in the formation of mullite at comparitively low temperatures.
Typical analysis
SiO2 - 80.9
Al2O3 - 13.8
Fe2O3 - 0.2
TiO2 - 0.1
Na2O - 0.4
K2O - 2.3
LOI - 2.3
It's used to replace
The RG grade (refractory grade) is lower in alkalies.
