Becky- I'd love it if you would post your plans for your raku kiln- I'm
sure others would, too.
I bought a raku kiln from miami cork a few years ago, but felt dumb
afterwards because I thought I could have easily built a similar one if I
hadn't been so insecure. I'm pretty brave and curious about most things-
but kilns scare me a little. I have a skutt electric and the raku kiln,
but I'd love to branch out to a small gas kiln. The top loading olympic
gas kiln
looks good in the pictures. Can that be situated in a basement?
grateful for replies

Leslie,
I posted the article as you and a couple of other people requested,
The article is "raku kiln from scratch"
About the gas kiln that you are thinking of buying... You shouldnt put
it in your basement unless you have very good ventilation. The fumes
from the kiln are noxious and depending on what glazes, etc you are
firing, can be harmful. Also, if you are going to be doing reduction
firing, the CO levels can be hazardous. I know that I definitely
could not imagine having a reduction kiln of any kind in my basement.
Does anybody else have any comments on having a gas kiln in the
basement?
Good luck, read the article on raku kilns from scratch!
