Shula, I thought that I would answer your questions over the forum.
I bought my 23" Olympic Raku kiln from Axner and picked it up at the
factory in Atlanta since I only live about sixty miles away. The
three burners are placed in a row in a vertical position below the
base of the kiln floor and the flames shoot through the three holes
cut into the floor. When you put the half kiln shelves on the
recommended three inch posts on the floor of the kiln, one can cover
or allow space for the center flame, the side flames shoot straight
up the sides and even come out the top air holes...I'm not sure if
that is an indication of just higher flames or the first signs of
reduction...there is alot to learn... I bought the 70 dollar
pyrometer from Axner - the one in the catalog..They sent it to me in
two days...Until I get the hang of the melting- and I kept good notes-
I will use it...Interesting to see the temp rise...It is not
installed, I just stuck the tip in the peep hole and put the meter on
the lid and protected from the heat with a fire brick.

I will be firing next weekend again and will report back.

Pat in Meansville GA where it is hot enough to raku on the sidewalk.
