Hello, ClayArtists,

I want to thank all who have tried to steer me to
mosaic sites. Indeed, I was sent a URL yesterday which got me
interested in a mosaic class in Ravenna this June!

If anyone has some feedback for me about traveling to that part of
Italy ... about mosaic or ceramic-oriented sites I shouldn't miss or
about accomodations (*inexpensive*) or ????, please let me know.

Thanks to all who have been tolerant of my slightly (rather?)
off-topic queries and to those who have helped!

Still hoping to find "my own" mosaic discussion group,

M.-J.

Hello...

I was in Italy last October and had a wonderful time with my wife exploring
all (or a good portion) of the Tuscan region... in addition we spend a day
and a half in Faenza. Faenza is the ceramic capitol of Italy. The Museum Di
Ceramiche was well worth the visit in my opinion. Most of the majolica ware
is produced here... but bring your charge card cause it's not cheap! With my
very limited Italian language skills, I tried to communicate with a few
artisan/shop owners, but it was difficult. Faenza is very "non-touristy" and
there are hardly any English-speaking Italians there... it is a quiet, quaint
old town... but not much after seeing the sights of Rome, Florence, Siena,
San Gimignano, and Venice.... but it was worth seeing how the "real" Italians
live for a change...

As far as mosaics... can't help you there. Ravenna was not far from Faenza if
I recall correctly. We took the trains (Italian Rail System) the whole time
we were there... for two weeks! It worked out great. (sigh) I want to go back
again and again....

Have fun and good luck!

Ciao!
