reduction kiln question

To all you kiln gurus out there... the gas cone 10 reduction kiln we use at
our cooperative studio has recently been replaced (not the burners only the
body) and there has been differing opinions as to whether or not to put the
baffles back in. The kiln was made to order by Olympia (remember, the
burners were not replaced) and they said we did not need to use the baffles
like we used to. After 2 months of firing this way, things seem to be
turning out OK except for our rutile glaze. We have made a new batch to
eliminate the possibility of a bad batch of glaze and that only helped a
little. Some people seem to think that maybe the absence of the baffles has
to do with the change.

I figured I would tap all the many experienced minds out there in clayart
land and see if anyone has had a similar situation or any insight to this.
If we used the baffles before, should we continue to use them? Do you think
it has anything to do with the different results of our rutile glaze? Any
info would be greatly appreciated!
