repair glue for glazed pottery

Howdy Group--

A request from a friend who owns a glossy glazed ceramic sculpture (not
large or heavy) which a child broke into a few pieces--what is the best
glue to put this back together. The artist (who is a friend of hers) is now
seriously ill and no longer working, so the piece (which has great
sentimental if not artistic value) cannot be replaced. We were talking and
I thought that superglue might do it, but I have no personal experience.

Super glue would probably be the worst thing you could use. Since the work is
important to the owner, check with a conservator at a nearby museum. Good luck

A lady I know does intricate china repairs and restoration. She recommend
two part epoxy for any kind of pottery.

Bonnie,

I don't know if the archives are accessable (I once wrote a description of
types/uses of a variety of glues), but for pieces like you describe, I'd
use 2 ton epoxy. If the glueing is going to be a difficult job (the 2 ton
takes a while to set up) use a bit of 5 minute epoxy AND the 2 ton. The 5
minute will hold while the 2 ton sets up. I don't recommend superglue.
