am finally going to buy one and would appreciate any recommendations on the
qualities of those available and the best place to buy.

Hi June: I used a CO2 analyzer for many years and quite frankly was always
disappointed with its results, for many reasons. Very subjective
methodology for taking readings and then interpreting readings. I am not
saying it doesn't work, but it is not a very accurate piece of equipment
for a potters needs. Fluid needs to be replaced periodically, gaskets need
the same. It gives you a percentage reading based on the volume of sucked
it "kiln atmosphere" that is absorbed into the devices internal fluid.
Percentage reading is than on a scale, but readigns can be very inaccurate
due to many things, not to mention the miniscus of the fluid, and any
variables in how you read it. These readings, IMHO, are only approximate,
and for my money, if I were a HVAC technician, this device is more suited
for analyzing exhaust flue gasses from you home furnace.
For my money, by an oxygen probe. If you want to call me at my shop, I'll
be happy to provide some very detailed examples as to some success stories
vis a vis the probe and how it has literally changed my "firing life."

Dear June, I used the CO2 and O2 analyzers and wouldn't waste the money
again. The oxyprobe is 100 times the equipment. Don't spend the money
until you can afford the oxyprobe. There is no comparison.

I too am looking for a "Co2 analyzer. I have a call
into our local supplier of pottery equipment. The one
I am most interested in is the "Fyrite" Co2 analyzer.
It was described very extensively in the book by Regis
Brodie, "The Energy Efficient Potter". I like the idea
of taking a sample versus having one installed like
the oxygen probes from Australia. Anyone out there
know where to get these devices.

I agree with Linda from Ithaca that the oxyprobe is by far the best but just
in case you want to do it the old fashioned way, I have an old CO2 analyazer
and want to sell it cheap. Used it for a year, never felt comfortable with
it so its up for grabs at $75.00. Its been sitting around for about 14
years. I much prefer a probe. I'll be happy to send the specifics if
you're interested.
