rewiring skutt kiln

I am trying to resuscitate a Skutt 181 Kiln. That's one
of the ones that normaly has a 4-prong plug and somehow
brings both 110 and 220 Volts to the elements. At some
point this one was rewired with the ground and the neutral
wires attached to the same blade of a 3-blade plug. I
don't know if that's kosher or not, at least until I
consult my electrician neighbor. My question is, however,
can I just rewire it using model 818 or 818P
220 V elements? I probably have to replace the elements
anyway because the thing is a bit beat up and I have a fair
number of bricks to replace also. I realize that I would have
to rewire the switch boxes but that doesn't look difficult if
the switches would work (This kiln has 2 3-way switches with
2 elements controlled by each switch).

I would also like to hear any opinions on whether this is worth
doing or if I have a good candidate for the shell of a raku kiln.
Those groved bricks are spendy so the cost is adding up to get
the kiln back on it's feet.

Thanks for any advice. At least I'm learning a lot more about
my equipment.
