salt fire liner?

Hello all,

I have a very good friend who has offered his
resources and is allowing me to fire a few pieces in
his Salt Kiln. He has a number of inner liners
for firing but I'm currently looking for a Burnt Orange
liner that is food safe.

If anyone has one to share I would greatly appreciate it.

Thanks much,

JB

I have had success with "Temple Orange" as a burnt orange liner in
reduction wood fire at cone 10. The glaze finishes as a semi-matte with
the orange color. The glaze is published in "The Penland School of
Crafts, Book of Pottery" edited by John Coyne (1975).

Temple Orange - Cone 9/10 reduction

Clinchfield (potash) feldspar..... 505
Cornwall Stone ................... 179
Whiting .......................... 126
Tennessee ball clay................ 95
Calcined Kaolin.................... 63
Zinc Oxide......................... 32
add
2% Bentonite....................... 20
6% Red Iron Oxide.................. 60
4% Rutile.......................... 40

I use Custer feldspar, OM-4 ball clay and calcined EPK. I also use it as
an accent glaze in gas fired cone 10 reduction. Apply on the thick side.
It gets shiny at cone 11/12. I would expect some shining up from a soda
atmosphere as well.
