Hello everyone,
I'll be traveling to San Antonio next week and would welcome the opportunity
to visit any fellow potters out there. My special interest is in Raku. Let
me know any special sights to see. TIA

Dan: I would recommend a visit to the Southwest Craft Center (don't have
the address but it would be in the phone book; it's near the downtown
area). Dennis Smith is in charge of the ceramics program. They have a
gallery, gift shop, and I'd recommend lunch there in the cafeteria.
Another person who teaches there is Lisa Orr. She has a shop called King
William Cup (712-A South St Mary's) that's worth a visit (nice work; low
fire functional ware with a very personal character). Don't miss the
McNey Museum (no pots but a good collection of early modern painting) and
the San Antonio Museum of Art is also worth a stop. There is a pretty
lively gallery scene there but I don't know what's showing; check out the
Blue Star Art Space on the river walk (kind of a cooperative of artists
studios and galleries) and someone there should be able to tell you if
there are any clay shows.

Yhe North Star mall ( near the big boots) has two nice ceramic galleries in
it too, you might want to go there. They have been successful, and take work
on consignment.

If this is not too late (I don't know which next week you mean): be sure to
visit the Southwest Craft Center. Address in phone book, and they should
also be able to direct you to other potteries. Go by Harding Black's
studio.......

Christopher Greenman on wed 3 jun 98

A student in my Continuing Education Pottery class is moving to San Antonio.
She would like to continue her pottery education. She has been with my class
for 12 weeks and has good throwing and handbuilding skills for that amount of
time. Anyone know of similar situations that she could look into?

TIA

South West Craft Center has an excellent program. Ask to speak to Dennis
Smith there. I believe he is still the director of the Ceramics Program
there.
