>Hi Corinne,
>Whenever I get to San Diego I visit the INTERNATIONAL GALLERY, an
interesting place with a collection of contemporary crafts and folk and
primitive art. They have a wonderful array of contemporary pottery by some
talented potters, including some well-recognized names. I've added to my
mug collection with each visit, and recently bought a sculptural clay piece
I couldn't afford and couldn't live without! Call them for directions to
their location. They'll make it simple for you to find them from your point
of origin. Enjoy!

I am off to San Diego mid Feb to try to warm up for a week...............I
would love to visit some studios or galleries that specialize in clay. Any
suggestions??

Definitely go to Sunstone Potters on La Jolla Blvd (Eleanor Murphey has
some gorgeous stuff and is a real nice person). Also, the Potters Guild
shop at Spanish Village in Balboa Park is interesting (besides the park
being one of San Diego's gems). For February, bring a raincoat (although
we haven't had a drop of rain since early November, it is still the "rainy"
season). Have fun in S.D.

Hi folks. Well, I'm headed out to San Diego in a couple of weeks. Didn't
recieve any advice about Quebec City and potters - now I know why. But it
is a great place to be.

So, what about the San Diego area. Looking for potters,
collections/museums, good stuff in general. Thanks ahead of time.

If I were going to be in San Diego, I'd hie myself right out to the
Nottingham Center for the Arts, actually in San Marcos but, as I
understand it, only an hour from San Diego proper. This art center
actually was conceived at NCECA '93 and sounds to me as if clayarter
Terry Sullivan's dream is being fulfilled. Great workshops are scheduled
throughout the summer...don't have that schedule but do have a telephone
number: 760-752-1020. Joyously anticipated being there myself for
Mel&Dannon but life took a little dip so that'll have to be another time
....

Joyce
In the Mojave going out to trim some of the red and brown clay pots so
they'll be ready for Val Cushing's glazes when his handbook arrives
(almost all bowls ... my hands just won't do anything else right now ...
just finished McMurtry's "Duane's Depressed," which led to a
foggy brain from struggling with Proust ... so am looking for deeper
meanings everywhere ... for the moment ... is this any way to handle a
retirement?)

You could check out the Potter's Guild shop in Balboa Park's Spanish
Village; often there are some interesting pieces done by a variety of
artists. And Balboa Park itself is a true gem in San Diego. If you get to
the northern part of San Diego stop off at La Jolla to check out Sunstone
Potters on La Jolla Blvd; Eleanor Murphey's work appeared in Ceramics
Monthly about 3 months ago and she is a delightfully entertaining person as
well as having gorgeous stuff in her shop. The village of La Jolla also
has some nice galleries and other cool places in the shopping district.
WHile you are in La Jolla, you could also check out the Grove Gallery at
the UCSD Crafts Center; they sometimes have good exhibits in their gallery.
If you like good beer, check out the Karl Strauss Brewing Co in La Jolla
or Sorrento Mesa. Lots more to see and do in San Diego; depends on what
you like.

Andi in San Diego waiting for my own vacation so I can see the sights in
Montana.
