Perhaps there will be a few exhibit coordinators of
the more national competitions who will read the
gripes/concerns of the ceramic community. This
may result in their designating awards for separate
categories (i.e. ceramic sculpture, pottery,
architectural ceramics, etc.)
From my experience, it has been very difficult to be
accepted in "sculpture" competitions, because there
is a negative bias concerning clay. However, even
if I didn't perceive this difficulty, I would still like to
participate in ceramic venues and continue to be a
part of the community. There is a bonding in the
ceramic field that I have not experienced any where
else.
On local levels, perhaps, those of us who belong to
exhibit committees might suggest the option of
distinguishing awards.
