Hi Clayart,
I'll be in North Carolina for Thanksgiving and would really like to visit
some Seagrove potteries. Does anyone know if they're open that time of year?
Any information about them would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks,

Bev - Don't know about hours over Thanksgiving but contact
Dover Pottery in Seagrove & talk to Samantha Henneke (or
anyone there). Even if they're not "open" officially, there must
be some you can visit - starting w/ Dover. Samantha & her buddy
Bruce Gholson do great work so start w/ them & their non-
traditional but wonderful functional pots. Karen Gringhuis

>They are open all year round. Some potteries close down on Sunday, but many
are still open. There is an information building in Seagrove center where you
can obtain free maps. Be sure to visit Tom Gray's studio and a nearby gallery
that shows the work of some of the newer potters to the area is Dirtworks.
Of historic value is Jugtown, the location of the Busbees and the Owens family.
Ben Owens Jr is still throwing pots and is a most hospitable and knowledgeable
person about the history of pottery. Ben III, famous for his red glaze,
also has a studio and gallery nearby and will be open if he's not off doing
workshops somewhere. A good place to start on the internet is Tom Gray's
Carolina Clay page (www.cclay.com)with links to other potters in the area.
There are over
70 potters in the loop, so you will have to pick and choose or plan to spend
a couple of days. At Jugtown and other places there is available a boook of
Carolina potters. Enjoy! If you're lucky you might be there for their annual
sale at the high school. They do it sometime in November, but I'm not sure when.

Seagrove potteries are opened all year round although there times are pretty
much the same as a business organization with time off for lunch. Usually
10a.m. to 5 p.m. and lunch is usually anywhere from 12:00 to 2:00. Have fun
with your viewing.
