Sharon, I use a commercial clear glaze (Ferro) on white earthenware and
found that if the glaze was "too thick" it would craze- maybe a week
later, maybe several months later. I put TOO THICK in quotes because
relatively speaking this glaze is very thin, like skim milk (as opposed
to the stoneware cone 9 glazes I have used like the consistency of
cream). This glaze can even CRACK.... I found that I needed to do tests
using a home made hydrometer to get the consistency I want- good
feel/coverage with no crazing. I use the hydrometer EVERY TIME now.
Perhaps the glaze you are using is crazing for the same reason. Cathy
