Forgive me if I seem to be repeating myself but I'm not sure this made it
onto the list :
I've finally installed my MFA show at San Jose State University. The show
will be up the week of Nov. 11-15 (it's one of those university-style
weeks) and an opening reception will occur Tuesday, Nov. 12 from 6-8 PM, to
which, of course, the members of this list are cordially invited. After
that, all I have to do is finish my thesis book, graduate and take my place
amongst the myiad of underemployed MFA grads.
Cool.
Orals are on Monday. I should be writing an artist's statement right now ,
but I really don't feel like it.
Wish me luck.

I was tempted - for two reasons. I realize what this is about and feel
there is some merit in the idea - theoretically. Discrimination is
disgusting and should be addressed where ever it pops up. I also know Dave
Gilhooley - used to make his clay for him when he was up here teaching at
York University. Have several donuts and a Mars bar in lieu of interest on
late clay payments (and happy to have them.)
On the other hand I do not want to be part of discrimination - at least not
the kind that we have no control over (aside from transformation
techniques.) It was not easy because I think Nils is doing something
important in addressing this issue.
Now can I have my balls back - Actually I'm not quite sure, at least at the
moment, I want them quite yet - life is quieter without them. Maybe in a
week or two.

Just thought I'd let anyone living in the Lexington/Richmond (Kentucky)
area know that there is a show opening tonight at the Giles Gallery at
Eastern Kentucky University. The show is a ceramics/Metal exhibtion and
includes 2 ceramic and 2 jewelry/metal artists.
The ceramists are Richard Burkett (SDSU and Clayart) and Walter Hyleck
of Berea College (Berea Kentucky).
The metals artists are Sue Amandelara (Edinboro University, PA) and
Harlan Butt (Texas).
The opening is from 7:30-9:30 pm and the exhibition runs through
November. It really is a strong exhibiton, hope you all get a chance to
see it.
Also, this evening just prior to the exhibition there will be a lecture
by Richard Burkett at 6:30 pm. Richard is here for about 6 weeks living
at Clayart Headquaters (my home!) and working with me in my studio.
He is creating a body of work which will culminate in an anagama firing
we plan to do in about 2 weeks. He is on sabbatical from SDSU for the
semester and we are enjoying our time working together, in real time/on
real clay work. If I could only get him to do the Clayart stuff while
he's here :) !
Lastly, the 2 of us will have a joint show here in Lexington at
Artsplace gallery starting next week (Nov. 11). Yes, we do find time to
produce artwork in between Clayart, teaching, etc.!

For those who have asked me to be more specific: My work will be in the
Slusser Gallery, which is on the first floor on the east side of the Art &
Design building on Bonisteel Drive. It will be pretty unmistakable, you
walk into the gallery, and there will be a 14 ft. long table with 12 chairs
and place settings!
I'll be around - from 7-8 I am hosting a dinner at my table, using my work,
but before and after I will be roaming around.
Hope to see some of you there!

Kira,
I'm off to San Diego tomorrow -- going early for the Malcolm Davis
workshop. Have a wonderful opening; so sorry I can't be there, but I'll
come see it when I get back home.
Hope to see you at NCECA.
