The best price I have found for silver nitrate is U.S. Pigment in Chicago.
They advertise in CM and have an 800 number

You can purchase it at a drugstore or pharmacy (in Canada) or through a
chemical supply house directly. Cheaper there than at pottery supply
houses. You don't need the "chemically pure" very
expensive grade for pottery. Read the hazards labels.

Silver experiments for raku...
I have not tried this yet as there=B4s too much snow here to do raku=3B =
I=B4m
saving used photo developer as I=B4ve been told silver from the photos or
films developed always =22falls off=22. This will not get any exact and =
easily
repeated results, but it=B4s worth a try I think.
Right now I=B4m taking a course in photo engraving and we use a film called
Copy Proof. After developing the film there=B4s a black paper left over, =
this
is sent back to the factory and they take care of the silver in the paper
and probably makes new ones. But not this stack=21 Because I=B4m going to =
burn
some of them and make a glaze with the ash. The rest I=B4ll use when I
reduce. I don=B4t know if I get silver nitrate this way, only know it=B4s
silver, so I have no idea what the results will be. It=B4s fun =
experimenting,
though.
If this is of any interest of yours or I=B4ve explained myself badly or
something, please e-mail me.

Hi Lottie,
A friend used some spent fixer from the photographic process that I saved for
her. She pit fired it and it came out great. Speckled light on dark
background. I have used the silver from our silver recovery unit and it did
nothing in the electric kiln. I haven't tried it in raku yet.
