We used to have a Skutt 231 nameplate rated at cone 6. However we had
great difficulty getting it up to cone 6 for a glaze firing. It was only
equipped with 2 rings of elements and switches (top & bottom). The center
ring was a blank filler ring with no element. Needless to say we now have a
three element kiln hooked up to the same electical source and have no
problem reaching cone 6 in about 7 hours. (5 hours for a 06 bisque). This
may not be your problem but it was ours. We priced a replacement ring with
elements for the blank ring and it would have cost more than another kiln.
Hope you have solved your problem I would be interested to know what it
turned out to be.
