Hi Lisa,
About your question about what type of electric kiln to buy, I have a Skutt
1027 with an envirovent and I love it. I bought it new 4 to 5 years ago and
it fires great. I've never had a problem. But the hottest I go to is Cone 1.
That may make a difference to you.
About your firing schedule, it seems fast to me. As a hand builder I fire
slow. Was your schedule for glaze or bisque? When I was in school I followed
that schedule in a test kiln on some thrown bone dry mugs with pulled
handles (ie, low for 2 hour, med 2 hours, high two hours) and on three out of
four mugs the handles fell off. I've been a slow firer ever since. And I
always coast my hand-built greenware over night. Even with my cone 04 glaze
firings I use three hour turn ups.
Hope this helps and that you're happy with your kiln purchase. One more bit
of advice, buy a larger kiln than you now think you need. I wish that I had.

That's the schedule for both, unless there's something slightly damp in
the bisque, in which case it might get soaked overnight on low.
Thanks, everybody, for the great info and opinions on kilns!

I've tried AMACO , Paragon , Evenheat , and Skutt . My favorite is my 12 year
old paragon . It's a work horse . AMACO makes a great kiln too . My Evenheat
and Skutt haven't been used much , but seem to work fine . I hope this is of
some help .
