I am a student at Pasadena City College, and in a few weeks, I am going
to begin a series of soda firings at the college. So I am looking for
formulas for slips for soda firings.

I have already done several soda firings, and these are the formulas that
I have been using:

Copper slip (cone 11)
Kona F-4 Feldspar 700
Grolleg Kaolin 900
Silica 300
Copper Carbonate 38

Cobalt slip (cone 11)
Kona F-4 Feldspar 700
Grolleg Kaolin 900
Silica 300
Copper Carbonate 19
Cobalt Oxide 19

Flashing Slip (cone 11)
Grolleg Kaolin 70
Nepheline Syenite 30
Lithium Carbonate 1

I am particularly interested in shinos and flashing slips for soda
firing. I would gladly reciprocate with anything that I learn. Thank
you.

Daniel: I note you are a student at Pasadena City College. Are you
working with Phil Cornelius? If so, give him my regards. Last time I
saw him he was knocking their socks off at NCECA.
Good luck on the soda firing. Our expert in the Bay Area is Peter
Coussoullis at the Walnut Creek Art Center. He has no e-mail but can
be reached by calling (510)943-5800, ext 407 or by writing the
Ceramics Department at the Art Center, 1313 Civic Crive, Walnut Creek,
CA 94596. Good firings.
