Help! I have an electric Paragon kiln (model SnF-82-3). It has gotten very
slow to
fire -- last week, I tried to fire to cone 6, and it fired for 20 hours
before the kiln
sitter turned it off, and it still wasn't anywhere near cone 6! I understand
that it
should only take 8-10 hours to fire to cone 6. I''ve checked the voltage
going into
the kiln and it is properly 240 volts. I've also checked the ohms in the
kiln
elements and all seem to be fine. Does anyone have any ideas as to what the
problem might be? I've talked to the guy that I bought it from and he says
he
doesn't know and wants me to bring it in, but it's a little heavy (!!!) to
just pop it
over to him.
Also... since my kiln was broken, the guy where I bought it said he'd fire a
load
for me of cone 06 earthenware pots. When I got them back yesterday, they
were ruined. The reds were black, some of the glazes had completely burned
off,
and all had small pinpricks in them. Did he overfire the load? Was it a
minor
mistake or as gross an error as I think? These were for a show and I don't
have time to make more so it's a major problem for me. WHat should I do?
SHould
I ask for compensation? He charged me $8 for the firing which I think is
adding
insult to injury.
