small, "portable" gas/propane kilns

We currently have our studio set up in the garage of our our rental house.
We use a Skutt 1027 electric kiln and fire to cone 10. As we now need to
replace the elements (after 10 months of use), we're checking into other
options for our cone 10 firings. We've been reading about Aim and Olympic
"portable" gas kilns (7-15 cubic feet) that can run on propane and look a
lot like the electric kilns. Does anyone have any experience with these
kilns? Any info would be greatly appreciated. We also read a short
article (in Clay Times or Ceramics Monthly?) about building your own small
kiln, and wanted to know if anyone knows where to get more info about this
- books, consultants, videos, workshops... Whatever we do must not be
permanent, since we are renting. We have a small backyard and a detached
garage to work with in terms of space. We live in a pretty urban area (on
an earthquake faultline no less), so have concerns about safety, etc. We
dream of moving to a more rural environment, but are looking for
possibilities within our current living situation. Any suggestions,
advice, etc.?

We hope to someday be able to contribute more than questions to this group!
Thanks for all help.

Be well-
