I'm trying to find out more about soda firing. Info regarding soda ash
firing is a bit scarce. Anybody got some facts they could spew forth in
regards?
Specifically, what exactly happens in the kiln with the soda ash?
What does the ash react with in the clay body, oxides, and glazes and why
does one get the change in colors because of it? Do you know the
specifics of the chemistry involved without (too much) conjecturing? What
causes the orange peel affect? Why does some soda ash produce nice colors
and too much produces greyness?
Much appreciated,
