My New L&L DaVinci has spaces between the sections. it seems they would fit
them together before sending them out but not in this case...
the bottom doesn't fit to the first ring, first to second and so on.
I know its been discussed here before, but Im wondering about any new ideas
on the subject of putting fibre between sections.
I did it with my other L&L about 15 years ago and it is still intact.
the problem as I understand it is the fumes finding their way out through
the remaining spaces, like where the elements go in, and depositing the fume
"nasties" on the plug boxes, leading to corrosion.
as well as shortening the element life.I use the old kiln only for bisque
there is some corrosion but the elements seem to last for ever at ^08. the
new one will be only for glaze ^8. Ive started venting through the lowest
peep hole rather than a hood a
it seems to work on the bisque kiln.
the question is if I seal up the spaces with fibre and vent through the
lowest peep, will I experience corrosion or shortened element life?
Also A lot of folks have asked about my new kiln and how I like it...
Well I expect this will be a continuing thread until I get the bugs out.
the ones (bugs) I have experienced so far having only done a ^20 and a ^5
test firing with out my kiln computer are :
1 the lid weighs about 100 lbs and I cant handle it alone. the counter
balance hinge was recommended but I didn't get it (cost $350.00)
Im thinking about electric winches with cables for easy liftoff and
placement behind the kiln leaning against the wall.
2. the control bow make a loud clicking sound accompanied by a blue spark in
the box when the controls are set to anything but "hi" this sound is quite
annoying and is going to take some getting used to.Im sure this is normal
just annoying...
3. The Dyna-trol computer didn't come with it and has been back ordered
something about a bad chip. "as soon as we get it, it'll go out" said L&L
which means i might get it next week or i might get it next month.
Im sure there will be more later

Hi Erik, I've been wondering about the DaVinci thinking the shape
would be so much better than the hex shape. I bought my hex L&L last
year and am generally satisfied with it. But the rings on mine did not
line up with one another, and at one point were over an inch off. L&L
instructed me to loosen the metal cladding and re-adjust the shape so it
would line up. This did not work, and one ring had to be
replaced--which took forever, but did fit better. The switch box also
makes that loud clicking sound with spark. Luckily mine is outside the
studio, but it does sound like it's shorting out even though it is
"normal". I like the element holders, but find the brick itself to be
on the crumbly side. They feel like k-23's. I wonder if the DaVinci
uses the same brick, and if the price difference between it and the hex
is really worth it. I got mine for about $1000 for the 27" dia., 3
tier including shelves, posts, Dawson sitter, and shipping from
Bennett's. Having heard about "problems" with the programmable control,
I decided to add it later, but so far I haven't. I seem to remember the
DaVinci of comparable size going for about twice that. I'll be
interested to read your updates on the DaVinci's performance. Sam
