Some friends here in Yellow Springs just had an open house in their new
straw bale home. It is wonderful! It is not cheap to build, but the
whole house is rated R72. I expect you could *almost* heat it with a
Bic. It is also very fire safe - plaster inside and stucco outside. Try
your local library for more info on straw bale construction. E-mail me
directly if you'd like the name and address of the owner/builder.
