A year or so ago. I stumbled on a store in Minneapolis that specializes in
weights and measures. I bought an ACCULAB GS-1000 (1000 gram) digital
scale from them for less than $80. It was by far the cheapest alternative
I had ever seen. And I really love it!

I just looked it up. The store is Twin City Scale (612-724-4334) and the
GS-1000 is no longer manufactured. It has been replaced by the GS-2000
(2000grams-probably better) and it costs $95. It runs on a 9V alkaline
battery but has an AC adapter. Good luck.

Sorry, I should have been more specific. I do not use this scale to
formulate small test batches of glaze, but it has worked just fine for my
larger batches of previously tested glazes. And, I must admit I'm a bit of
a dump-and-stir cook and that does tend carry over to my clay. This scale's
readability is only 1 g. There is a GS-200 in this lower cost line with
readability of .1 g, but I don't know the exact price. And, of course,
there are more precise versions (down to .01 g.) that are stainless steel.
My little GS-1000 is plastic.
